But hey, who am I to say a thing when I’m not a performer or in the TV industry? *phew* The trick is perhaps, with most talent shows, to stick to something you’re good at or already know well enough to not screw it up too much. Or the one who tried to dance to Rain/Bi‘s. I do understand that the contestants likely only had a few hours to learn the songs, but still, seriously, what were you setting yourself up for by attempting to do one of Taeyang’s songs? Seriously. I bet I’ll find one up on Youtube all nicely spliced and captioned really soon though. I sincerely wanted to do a side-by-side video of the contestant ‘dancing’ to ‘ Turn It Up‘ and ‘ I’ll Be There‘, but alas, wasn’t able to find a video of him at the moment. Don’t need to spell that out any further. You’ve to be so effing awesome at dancing it hurts. To be Taeyang, fit body aside, dude, DANCE. He might not quite have the dance skills, but he manages to be a badass rapper with a touch of dorkiness and mischief on stage. To be T.O.P, you need that certain amount of swagger and gravitas when performing.

Screencap of contestant in the middle: me (alright, Youtube and Mediacorp Channel 8 as well) Let’s deal with this step by step.Ĭredit for screencaps of Taeyang(left) and T.O.P (right): YG Entertainment But I’ve to say, it’s a tough fight when you set yourself up for comparison to those two. Right, so I get that this contestant, James, I’m about to poke a ttiinnyy amount of fun at was simply stating his idols were T.O.P and Taeyang of BIGBANG fame. I decided to give it a chance, partly because I wanted something on while fixing stuff around the house (so, background sound really, sorry) and partly because a friend’s friend was on it so I was curious. In fact, it’s prolly been a long while since I’ve caught any talent show-type programme. But it’s a sly “Hey people, you know you like this and are waaay looking forward to 14th Dec, 5pm (KST)!” Why, yes, yes I am.Įarlier tonight, I found myself watching Channel 8’s ‘Star Search 2010’ for the first time in… possibly ever. The video is basically video stills and music from the duo’s previous solo releases, namely ‘Heartbreaker’ and ‘Turn It Up’. It’s not much if you were expecting for even a snippet of their new music. The worldwide premier of GDTOP (I’m assuming from all the pictures and news so far that’s what the duo is going by) on BIGBANG’s Youtube channel is less than 24 hours away, and YG/BIGBANG has uploaded a teaser of sorts: So, basically, K-Pop-fied stereotypical Mafia-ish outfits by way of one or two good period theatre pieces. *points to title of post* But how can you not when one of the first official pictures of the GDTOP duo (surprisingly consisting of, well, BIGBANG’s G-Dragon and T.O.P - goodness, how did they ever come up with that /deadpan) has them dressed as… uh, pimped-out (I fear the political incorrectness of that term) guyliner-wearing, vaguely Victorian-outfitted, loafer-wearing individuals complete with Siberia-ready headwear and colour-coordinated ammo, who look too young to be heading some potentially very illegal operation. I am prone to a spot of hyperbole once in a while. Fri, 24 Dec: Release of the duo’s album!.Sun, 19 Dec: Debut TV performance on SBS’s Inkigayo (of ‘High High’ and ‘Oh Yeah’, which will include an appearance by Park Bom for the latter).Wed, 15 Dec: Digital release of ‘High High’ and ‘Oh Yeah’ (feat.Tue, 14 Dec: World Premiere on BIGBANG’s Youtube Channel (and reveal of the ‘High High’ music video) at 5PM (KST).With so many updates and events concerning GDTOP, let me get what I know straight: This blog is fast turning into a ‘This is where I fangirl about BIGBANG without annoying too many friends’ blog, isn’t it? Yikes.

Goodbye iTunes which used to be dominated by sub-genres that ended with ‘-core’!īetween the ‘YG Family’ and YG Life’ Youtube channels, and separate channels for BIGBANG, 2NE1, Taeyang, Se7en and Psy, I’m about to get confused very, very soon. Then again I didn’t know I could enjoy hip hop, much less Korean hip hop, until recently. It carries the swagger that the fun, potential-club-fave ‘ High High‘ and the not-that-memorable ‘ Oh Yeah‘ lack. ‘ Knock Out‘ is my current fave out of the 3 singles. Perhaps in a bid to increase hype for GD&TOP’s album release on the 24th, the first video uploaded is the duo performing ‘Knock Out’ (뻑이가요) during the recent 2 010 YG Family Concert. I presume where concert performances of YG artistes will be uploaded for our viewing pleasure. At least, not too much…?Īfter GD&TOP’s world premiere on Youtube, which I’ll recap in a later post, YG Entertainment launches a new Youtube channel, YG Concert. Darn, how do I do it! Settle down now, a pun once in a while won’t hurt.
